The only member of the supreme court to rule differently in the Plessy vs. Ferguson case was Justice Harlan. He later wrote a dissenting opinion about the outcome of the case. I believe that he took the time to write this opinion to point out a major problem that he saw in our justice system. He expressed that the decision made in this case violates the freedoms of the people based on the color of their skin even though the constitution is colorblind. I believe that his mission in writing this statement was to explain to the people that this case was not decided on based on the constitution but based on the bias discrimination of the members of the court. I think that his argument is correct and he has strong reason that back it up. However, during this time period I wouldn't expect the public to have a similar reaction across the board. People that were in favor of discrimination would hate his argument while others would see where he was coming from. Today, I believe that his argument would open the eyes of the majority of the public because today people are accepting of integration and don't have racist bias opinions. I think that this dissent shows how the process of change in society begins. It begins with a few strong opinions that spread gradually when more people begin to understand.
